Module 04 · Dockets & research
Know the moment something hits the docket.
Searches Florida county dockets and CourtListener, watches your cases for new entries, and verifies every citation.
The problem
Why it's hard today
Checking clerk portals case by case is the kind of task that gets done on Fridays, if at all. Opposing counsel's motion is often noticed by the hearing notice that follows it.
AI research tools add a different risk: citations that look real and are not.
How it works
4 steps, start to finish
- 1
Search the public sources
Florida county clerk portals where they allow it, plus CourtListener opinions and federal RECAP dockets.
- 2
Watch your matters
Add a case to the watchlist; it is re-checked on a schedule and new entries become notifications.
- 3
Research with verification
Memos list authorities only after the citation is checked against CourtListener. Anything unverified is marked as such.
- 4
Respect the portal
Fetches are rate-limited and cached. A CAPTCHA-protected portal gets a prefilled link for you to open; we never bypass it.
Approval: Searching and watching are read-only. Research memos are drafts for an attorney to review.
Questions
Dockets & research: FAQ
Which Florida counties are supported?
We start with the large South Florida counties and add others over time. Where a portal cannot be searched automatically, McGee gives you a prefilled deep link.
Can the research memo be filed as-is?
No. It is a draft that helps an attorney start. The attorney reads the authorities and remains responsible for anything filed.
Is this a replacement for Westlaw or Lexis?
No. It covers watching your own dockets and first-pass research on public sources. Many firms will keep their research subscription.
Start with one case. Keep the queue.
Open the sample firm and approve a records request, or set up your own workspace in a few minutes. Your firm signs our BAA in the app before any client records go in.
